For the first half of the trip, we will be in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. SML is a small riviera town just north of Cinque Terre and on the same peninsula as Portofino. After doing some reading, SML is where you go if you want a local experience, Portofino is for the rich and glamorous.
The second half of the trip, we will be in Antibes, France. We chose Antibes thanks to Sheila Mellgren's rave reviews. Antibes is just outside of Nice and close to Cannes. We will be there during the Cannes film festival, we just might spot some celebrities.
